Jamie Whitecrow lives in Toronto, On, Canada, and is Anishinaabe from Seine River First Nation, Treaty #3. She holds a Master of Film Production (MFA) from York University and has studied philosophy and Indigenous community development.
Her artistic endeavours encompass performance, music, visual art, and filmmaking. With her group THE NDN ACT, she also writes and performs sketch comedy.
Jamie has previously explored the relationship between gender and sexuality and Indigenous identity in her film and video work. She is intrigued by the ways that the “erotic” Indigenous woman (on-screen and on-stage) subverts social norms and expectations. Applying her peculiar and radical sense of humour to comprehend the role of Anishinaabe women in creation stories and teachings has been her recent focus.
